Do you get enough sleep? The spoon method will let you know

spoonDo you fall asleep after just a few minutes when you lie down during the day? If you do, you probably suffer from sleep deficiency. The teaspoon test will tell you whether or not you actually get enough sleep.

This is how it works: Lie down on the bed or the couch during the day and close your eyes. The light should be dimmed a little. Hold a teaspoon in one hand and stretch that hand out of bed or away from the couch. The teaspoon should be held loosely in your hand and point down vertically. Take a look at the clock and then close your eyes and relax. In the precise moment in which you fall asleep, your hand will release the spoon and let it fall to the floor. The sound will make you wake up and, if you take another look at the clock, you will be able to see how long it took for you to fall asleep. The evaluation is quite simple.

Dozed off within 5 minutes:
Those who fall asleep within the first five minutes should try to sleep longer on a regular basis, because it’s quite obvious that they suffer from sleep deficiency.

Dozed off within 5 – 10 minutes:
Those who only need between five and ten minutes to fall asleep should also try to sleep longer at night. They will feel better during the day.

Dozed off within 10 – 15 minutes:
Those who doze off after ten to fifteen minutes can decide for themselves or test themselves to find out whether or not a little more sleep has a positive effect on their mental and physical condition during the day.

Still awake after 15 minutes:
Those who are still awake after a quarter of an hour are apparently well-rested. Unless they suffer from insomnia, they don’t need to worry about having a sleep deficit.
