Do Horses Sleep Standing or Lying Down?
No doubt you’ve wondered how a horse manages to sleep. Does it get down on all fours or does it just remain standing when it’s tired?
We’ve got the answer. Horses sleep lying down when they feel completely safe. In herds, not all animals lie down. One or several remain standing and sound a warning if danger threatens. So a horse sleeps best if another horse is nearby and stays awake. But a little snooze can keep it off its feet. Then the horse raises a back leg slightly.
